‘American Greed’ features John Bolaris scandal

CNBC’s American Greed’s May 19 episode will focus on former Philadelphia weatherman John Bolaris, who was drugged (twice) and scammed while on vacation in South Beach in 2010 as part of a wide-ranging wire fraud scheme. Bolaris told his tale to the Daily News in 2011.

In 2010, two Eastern European women – Marina Turcina and Anna Kilimatova – drugged Bolaris and charged $43,000 to his American Express card. He later testified in front of a grand jury, helping the FBI indict 17 people in a wire fraud scheme that scammed 88 men, including Bolaris, out of money.

The Daily News story led to interest from Playboy, who interviewed the former NBC10 and Fox 29 weatherman. That story led to Bolaris’ firing from Fox 29. Bolaris is now a real estate agent and his filling in for Nor’easter Nick on SNJ Today News.

American Greed airs at 10 p.m. on CNBC.
